You are sitting with a bunch of friends [or co-workers or members of some organisation, etc.] and everyone is having a gala time talking and having fun making jokes on each other. Then suddenly someone brings up a topic which initiates a discussion on one of your friends. Everyone joins in and before long, they are all saying things which you do NOT agree with. The whole group does not know anything about this friend of yours, and they are saying things just for the sake of saying them.
What would you do?
- Keep to yourself that the person in question is a friend. Give some more -ve input, because you are eager to stay in the conversation.
- Keep quiet and listen to the group
- Say a few well known +ve things about your friend to counter the -ves
- Let it be known that the person in question is your friend and then argue why the opinion of the group is not true
- Let them know that the person in question is your friend, get angry, scream and beat 'em all up! ;)
Now, this is not one of those quizzes where you have a score chart, where after you decided on one of the answers 1-5 and then I tell you if you choose 1, you do not have any of the three traits mentioned in the title. :P
Its just a matter of how firmly you believe in things that you do believe in and how much self respect you have so that you can bring out just a li'l courage and speak up on issues which matter to you. In other words, self respect and will power.
Of course it depends on the situation and circumstances. No two scenarios are alike. You also have to measure how mature your audience is to receiving any of your responses 1-5, before you pick one of them. You don't want to choose 5 when you've been kidnapped and the kidnappers were friendly enough to let you sit with them and have coffee because all they want is money, and not to kill you just yet. :P
Well this is most certainly a very personal concept and ideas on this might vary. So how about you give me your feedback in comments as to which number you'll choose and give a li'l more description of the scenario in which you'll choose this number? Lets see what people would do and in what kind of scenario! :D

You question the negativism/positivism, check if its factual; and you give your own opinion about the person. Being your friend shouldn't really matter that much; if all it comes down to is that your friend is a bastard, it doesn't really matter, coz the person is your friend and is good to you. The world is relative!
Sorry I think I didn't make it clear the people in the group do not know your friend at all. So they do not really have a first hand knowledge about him and also what they are saying is purely for their own entertainment.
People should read this.
